Geometric Krater

Geometric Krater

The artifact I researched was the Geometric Krater. The Geometric Krater was simply a unique style of was a pottery vase used by the Greek, it had a common shape as other vases did of the time in Greece often found in Dipylon cemeteries. An important fact about the Geometric Krater is that here was not one geometric krater, however there were many geometric krater; they differed in design on the surface. The Geometric Krater became one of the first vases that could be identified by specific artist, by the paintings on the vase or style of the prosthesis scene adorning it. They often depict stories on different levels of their sides. The Krater was often used in funerary processes and discovered around grave cites.
